Hello,

As most have known by now I'm quite a fan of the whole Touhou franchise going on. I'm still hoping to find someone to play the spin off games with so I decided to make a guide on how to install and patch the games I like:

Touhou 10.5th Project Shrine Maiden: -Scarlet Weather Rhapsody-
&
Touhou 12.3th Project Shrine Maiden: -Unreal Natural Law-

Th105swr.jpgSokulogo.jpg

Yes, I know, this looks (and is) Japanese. Don't worry. -Scarlet Weather Rhapsody- has a patch to make it completely English. They're working on a patch for the new game also. However, you do need to have East Asian languages installed in Windows. Please refer to this site (Only up to step 4) to see how that's done under Windows XP. If Wikipedia is correct Windows Vista has them installed by default.

Quote:

Note: It's best to get both games, 12.3 is actually an expansion to 10.5 so keep in mind if you just want them separate do not follow this guide.

Installing/using Microsoft AppLocale

"What is Microsoft AppLocale?" wrote:

Microsoft AppLocale is a program that let's you run a certain program in it's original native programmed language. Myself I use this program a lot to run Japanese and Korean games that otherwise won't run unless I change whole Windows to those languages which that of course makes using Windows very hard. So they invented this program that'll let you run a program as if it's running on a Windows of the language it's programmed in.

  1. First download Microsoft Applocale from the official site. Just press the Download button and save it somewhere you can find it back.
  2. After downloading run the file and just install everything in the way it tells you to. (Aka, keep pressing next/ok/agree etc.)
  3. Reboot your computer after installing!
  4. After rebooting it's a fairly easy to use program. The program will be located at:
  5. Start > All Programs > Microsoft AppLocale > AppLocale
  6. Now view the following steps how to use the program:

Once you start this you get an introduction window. Click on "Next >".

At the new window make sure "Launch an application" is chosen. (It is by default.) then click on "Browse...".

Over there browse through your computer to the program you want to use AppLocale for. (Read the other guides which files we're using for Touhou.) Double click the program or select it and press "Open".

Leave "Arguments:" just empty and click "Next >".

"Step 3" wrote:

A new window appears with "Language of the application:". In that menu scroll all the way down. Japanese is the last option by default. It looks like:日本語

After picking that once again click on "Next >"

At the last window you can chose to make a shortcut. You might want to do this so you don't have to go through this. There's no need to put a "Link description". If you chose to make a shortcut it will be put at the same location as AppLocale:

Start > All Programs > Microsoft AppLocale > Your shortcut

You can copy/move this shortcut anywhere you want yourself. If you run the shortcut it'll automatically use Microsoft AppLocale to open the program you chose. You will get a warning it's best to change your whole system to the actual language but just ignore that. It's nonsense. ¬.¬

Now if you press "Finish" AppLocale will close it's window and start running your program using the programmed language it was made in!

Like I said before this can also be used for other programs/games. I simply love this program. It helped me out many times.

This concludes the guide on Microsoft AppLocale.

Installing Touhou 10.5th Project Shrine Maiden -Scarlet Weather Rhapsody-

Th105swr.jpg

  1. Ok, first, download the actual game over here.
It will be a compressed RAR file named: [A-T][Twilight Frontier] Touhou Hitousen ~ Scarlet Weather Rhapsody ~.
(If you cannot open RAR files download the program here. Just download and install everything as default. Nothing else needs to be done.)
  2. To make things working for sure you want to put this file into: C:\Program Files.
  3. Now if you have WinRAR installed you can simply right click the file, and chose "Extract Here". The file will now unpack the game. (The game already works now but we're not done just yet.)
  4. If you want you can now delete [A-T][Twilight Frontier] Touhou Hitousen ~ Scarlet Weather Rhapsody ~ unless you want to keep it for another time.
  5. Next we're going to update the game to the latest version. Download the latest patch here and save it somewhere you can find it back. The file is named: th105_update_106. Do not open this file.
  6. Instead use Microsoft AppLocale as I showed in the guide before this one. At Step 4 browse to th105_update_106 and open that.
  7. The update program will now start with a lot of Japanese gibberish probably no one of us can read. But don't worry! I'll help you~
  8. First you have an introduction window. Press on the "
次へ(N) >" button which obviously means Next.
Over there you have to chose a directory. By default this isC:¥Program Files¥tasofro¥th105Notice how the Japanese use ¥ (Symbol for Yen, Japanese money currency.) for directories instead of back-slashes. No worries though, here is the right directory if you did the steps right so far:C:¥Program Files¥Scarlet Weather RhapsodyYou can just copy and and paste this and again press "次へ(N) >".
A confirmation window appears, just press the middle button where the "次へ(N) >" button was all the time to update your game to the latest version.
You can now delete the downloaded file "th105_update_106" unless you want to keep it for another time.

Right now you have a fully installed and working version of Scarlet Weather Rhapsody. The following steps aren't needed but you might want them cause you'll turn the game English.

  1. Once again you're going to download something. This time: The English patch. The file will be named "SWREnglishTranslation-v1_0" on your computer.
  2. This file you can just open without using AppLocale.
  3. Just click next and at the folder once again put:
    C:\Program Files\Scarlet Weather Rhapsody
You can just copy and paste this again.
  4. Click next and chose any shortcuts you like. Then click Finish.

Now your game will be English each time you use these shortcuts.

And this as well concludes the guide for installing and patching Scarlet Weather Rhapsody.

Installing Touhou 12.3th Project Shrine Maiden -Unreal Natural Law-

  1. Ok, first, download the actual game over here.
It will be a compressed RAR file named: th123.
  2. To make things working for sure you want to put this file into: C:\Program Files\Scarlet Weather Rhapsody.
  3. Again right click the file, and chose "Extract Here". The file will now unpack the game. (The game already works now but we're not done just yet again.)
  4. If you want you can now delete th123 (NOT the folder, but the downloaded file.) unless you want to keep it for another time.
  5. Next we're going to update the game to the latest version. Download the latest patch here and save it somewhere you can find it back. The file is named: th123_update_103. Do not open this file.
  6. Instead use Microsoft AppLocale as I showed in the guide before this one. At Step 4 browse to th123_update_103 and open that.
  7. The update program will now start with a lot of Japanese gibberish probably no one of us can read. But don't worry! I'll help you~
  8. First you have an introduction window. Press on the "
次へ(N) >" button which obviously means Next.
Over there you have to chose a directory. By default this isC:¥Program Files¥tasofro¥th123Replace this with:C:¥Program Files¥Scarlet Weather Rhapsody¥th123You can just copy and and paste this and again press "次へ(N) >".
A confirmation window appears, just press the middle button where the "次へ(N) >" button was all the time to update your game to the latest version.
You can now delete the downloaded file "th123_update_103" unless you want to keep it for another time.

Right now you have a fully installed and working version of Unreal Natural Law. Up till now there's still no English patch but the game is easy to understand if you played some of Scarlet Weather Rhapsody first. In fact I started with that one before the English patch was even out yet and got the game under control with ease.

And thus hereby... this concludes the guide for installing and patching Unreal Natural Law.

Merging both games to get the complete game

Ok, so far you have both games. But as mentioned before 12.3 is an add on for 10.5. It picks up the storyline after 10.5.

In fact 12.3 only has 5 playable characters. By merging the games you unlock all the characters from 10.5 in 12.3. This is explain on the official site but of course... In Japanese. It's fairly easy however, especially compared to the last 3 guides. Are you ready? Cause here we go~

  1. If you followed all my guides step by step so far you should be able to find a file named "configex123" which is located at: C:\Program Files\Scarlet Weather Rhapsody\th123.
  2. Open this file with Notepad (Windows should by default.). The start will look something like the following:
    #E‚»‚Ì‘¼‚ÌÝ’è
    #ƒRƒ“ƒtƒBƒO‚Å‚ÍÝ’è‚Å‚«‚È‚¢Šg’£Ý’è‚ðs‚¢‚Ü‚·B

    #E“Œ•û”ê‘z“V‚̃Cƒ“ƒXƒg[ƒ‹ƒtƒHƒ‹ƒ_
    [th105path]
    path=C:\Program Files\tasofro\th105
    #“Œ•û”ñ‘z“V‘¥‚̃Cƒ“ƒXƒg[ƒ‹Žž‚Éݒ肵‚½“Œ•û”ê‘z“V‚̃f[ƒ^‚̓ǂݞ‚Ýæ‚Å‚·B
    #•ÏX‚·‚邯‚«‚̓tƒ‹ƒpƒX‚Åݒ肵‚Ä‚‚¾‚³‚¢B
    #“Á‚É–â‘肪‚È‚¢ê‡‚Í•ÏX‚µ‚È‚¢‚±‚Æ‚ð„§‚µ‚Ü‚·B

  3. As you can see a part contains:
    [th105path]
    path=C:\Program Files\tasofro\th105
You want to change this to:
    [th105path]
    path=C:\Program Files\Scarlet Weather Rhapsody

  4. Save the file and close it.

Well, and that's pretty much it. Now if you start the shortcut you made with AppLocale you'll have all the characters in all the modes except the story-mode.

This concludes the final guide on this so far. I'll expand it once the English Patch for Unreal Natural Law comes out.
